The Best Automatic Pool Vacuums
As a pool owner, there’s nothing better than watching your automatic pool vacuum do the work for you. There are a few different types of automatic pool vacuums and many different variations, which we’ve broken down below:
Pressure Side Pool Cleaner
A pressure side cleaner relies on your pool’s pump and filter, but it specifically relies on the pressure side of the pump where the water is being forced into the pool. As the pressure of the water moves through the cleaner, it powers the wheels and creates suction. These types of cleaners have their own filter bag so they don’t trap the debris in your filter. A popular model of this style of vacuum is the Polaris Vac-Sweep 360.
Suction-Side Pool Cleaner
As the name suggests, these vacuums rely on the suction of the pump and filter to pull up debris from the floor. The suction is also what powers the vacuum to move around the floor. The debris from these vacuums goes through your plumbing and gets caught in the filter. The vacuum has a long hose that will attach from the vacuum to the skimmer’s suction. A popular model of this style vacuum is Pentair’s Kreepy Krauly.
They are easy to set up and as long as your pool as proper suction and flow, will keep your pool floor nice and clean.
Robotic Vacuums
Robotic Vacuums do not require much effort at all. They are the top-of-the-line style of vacuum and are highly recommended. These vacuums are completely separate from your pump and filter. They have their own filter bag basket to catch all debris. These vacuums are plugged into a power outlet and you simply press a button and watch them clean.
The Pentair Prowler 920 is a popular model for a robotic vacuum. It offers a superior level of cleaning, scrubbing and vacuuming. With two brushes, including one active brush that spins at two times the speed of the tracks, a single LED light and the ability to customize the filtration level, just plug in the Prowler 920 and watch it go to work. It has a fast and easy debris removal with a top-access filtration basket. This basket allows you to change from a fine debris or large debris filtration cartridges. It has a programmable daily cleaning schedule with a built-in weekly timer.
Manual Vacuums
The standard manual vacuum head and vac hose is also an option for cleaning your pool. It is recommended to have a vacuum head, vacuum hose, and pole to be able to manually vacuum the pool. You never know when you may have to do a quick spot vac for that last minute pool party.
