Summer is underway and the backyard pool fun is in full swing! Cannonball Pools can help you have that nice, clean and maintained pool to enjoy the summer months while they’re here. It’s time to cool down and have fun with family and friends.

As much as Cannonball Pools promotes getting out there and having fun around the pool, we also stress the importance of pool safety. Here are some great pool safety tips to keep your summer fun, stress-free and most importantly, safe.

  1. Keep children under active supervision at all times. Stay within arm’s reach of young kids.  Designate a responsible person to watch the water when people are in the pool. It’s easy to get distracted, so be sure to have someone watching at all times, especially when children are swimming.
  2. Keep toys out of the pool when the pool is not in use so that children won’t be tempted to go in after them.
  3. Keep the swimming pool water clear. Maintain proper chemical levels, circulation, and filtration. Keeping the water clean helps the risk of earaches, rashes, and other ailments. It also ensures visibility for all the little divers looking to dive down and get their diving toys.
  4. Establish rules and safe behaviours, such as “no diving,” “stay away from drain covers, and “no running on the pool deck.”
  5. Have appropriate safety equipment and emergency procedures planned in case of any accidents.
  6. Don’t swim alone. Always have a swim buddy in case you suffer a health problem such as a muscle cramp or heart attack and cannot get to the side safely without assistance.
  7. Do not swim if you hear thunder or see lightning for at least 30 minutes to allow the storm to pass.
  8. It is recommended that if you’re the pool owner, you should take basic first and CPR courses as well as refresher and updated courses regularly.
  9. Keep glass and other sharp objects away from the pool. Not only will broken glass cut feet, but it can cause costly damage to the pool.
  10. When having that pool party, watch alcohol consumption. Being around the pool while intoxicated is dangerous for the intoxicated person as well as other swimmers.
  11. Everyone likes to be out in the sun having fun on those nice pool days, but keep in mind how much time you spend in the sun. Apply sunscreen and take shade and water breaks to avoid sunstroke.
